Gizan Port, Saudi Arabia
When we began construction of Stage II in late 1979, Gizan Port consisted of only two large breakwaters and minimal facilities. Our work covered the construction of this
Saudi Arabian Red Sea port with dredging and reclamation of the west side of the harbor basin as well as construction of several quays.
Specifically, this project includes the North Quay, West Quay, Southern Return to West Quay, East Quay, Ro-Ro Ramp, Container Quay, Service Craft Repair Quay, L-shaped Quay for Floating Dock, Service Quay, and Small Craft Quay.
This southern most developed port helps considerably to relieve the facilities at the Port of Jeddah, with accommodations for large commercial vessels as well as small
craft.
Port of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia
We began construction of the Port of Yanbu in 1975. The wOrk on this Saudi Arabian Red Sea Po’rt included general marine works, utilities, services, paving, filling ,
earthworks, navigational aids, foundations, safety works, and all electromechanical systems.
Our work on the port, which serves the rapidly developing industrial city of Yanbu, was covered in several contracts and variation orders. Specifically, the projects encompassed a 315m long precast concrete quay wall, 5 berths, a barge wharf, and transit sheds; also, a 2,000m road network, drinking water supply from underground and overhead fresh water tanks, fire-fighting systems and all power and electrical installations. In addition, 150,000 cu.m was reclaimed as a result of extensive dredging.
We recently completed contracts for the Royal Commission for lubail and Yanbu covering extensive deepening of the Industrial Port of Yanbu, fill and shore protection, and the provision of services.
Port of Dammam, Saudi Arabia
Starting with the extension of the breakwater and protective walls of the 10km causeway in 1969, we were entrusted by the Saudi Ports Authority with the task of developing and building the most important port facilities in the Gulf.
In 1972, we were awarded the construction of 9 deep-water berths, related warehouses and transit sheds, a complex of administrative buildings, small craft harbors, roads, water supply, sewerage and other port facilities. All berths were delivered seven months ahead of schedule.
Contracts for the construction of the East Port of Dammam followed, including 10 additional deep-water berths.
The expansion of the port continued with the construction of the U.S. $ I-billion West Port, in joint venture with Philipp Holzmann AG and Interbeton BV. During 1985 we completed construction of the floating ship repair yard with a lifting capacity of 22,000 t, which is capable of accommodating vessels up to 80;000 DWT.
Port of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The construction of-this immense and complex project began in 1967, its target being to provide a gateway for the phenomenal construction and growth of the country.
In several consecutive stages the company constructed 16 deep-water berths, a slipway, transit sheds, 200,000 sq.m of warehouses, the impressive Pilgrims’ Hall, all port buildings and shore installations including electrical, telephone, roads and pavements, water supply, sewerage, water drainage and other utilities.
Stage IV, completed in 1982, doubled the port’s capacity with 20 additional deepwater berths, container terminal facilities, transit sheds, warehouses and road facilities.
Port of Beirut, Lebanon
In 1966 we undertook the execution of the complete renovation and expansion of the Port of Beirut.
The harbor’s capacity was greatly increased to cope with the evergrowing need for more docking space and storage facilities. The project included an 800m extension
of the outer mole founded at 19m, construction of a leeward mole, construction of four 880m long quays in the harbor’s first basin and six quays of 1,440m in the third basin, renovation and improvements in the old harbor, and, reclamation of 5 million cu.m of sand dredged and transported by sea.
Port of Benghazi, Libya
The reconstruction of the Port of Benghazi, which was totally destroyed during World War II, was one of the first projects we carried out in North Africa. The project required close organization regarding the sea approach and supplies from quarries, in a location where strong north and north-west winds and over 10m high waves prevail.
It is also worth mentioning that in this project 30-ton armor unit stabits were used for the first time worldwide, patented by Sir William Halcrow consultants and which we modified for improved efficiency.
The project included reconstruction and extensions of the port’s three moles, construction of three new deep-water quays, construction of a new oil-tanker berth in the middle harbor, 325,000 cu. yds of dredging and 800,000 cu.yds of rock filling, 12,000 30-ton stabits and an extensive road network.
